What is the origin of the Jebaited emote on Twitch?

Alex Jebailey, a combat game tournament organizer and the face of the Jebaited emoticon, started it all in 2011.
Jebailey was acquainted with Ben Goldhaber, a member of Twitch's founding staff. He believed his friend deserved a worldwide Twitch emote, and so Jebaited was created.

However, this was not the initial image of Alex Jebailey peering skyward that we are accustomed to seeing nowadays. It was just a random photo of Alex dressed up as Randy Savage. That image was then altered with a beard and sunglasses to make him appear even more like Randy Savage, and it was published to Twitch as an emote. Jebaited was created.

The emote was still minor and largely utilized in the FGC at this point (Fighting Game Community). During this period, Alex Jebailey had a tendency of unmapping his controller's buttons in order to confuse and lure his opponents into doing something dumb.

In 2016, Twitch approached Alex Jebailey, asking a ‘higher resolution' version of the Jebaited emoticon in order to future-proof their platform.

Jebailey and his manager searched through their CEO images until they found the right one: Jebailey staring up at the screen with the audience going crazy in the background.

Following the debut of the new emote on Twitch, someone submitted the notorious Jebaited copypaste, which went viral in the League of Legends community.

Kappa outdated, PogChamp overrated, long have we waited, now we Jebaited.

Following that, the emote and the term Jebaited became quite popular among the Twitch community. According to stream elements, Jebaited is the 64th most used emote on Twitch as of 2021.

Jebaited is currently Twitch slang for when someone is baited in a video or when a broadcaster is lured into doing something idiotic on live.

Alex Jebailey still snaps photographs of himself executing the Jebaited position when fans ask for them!

Jebaited used on Twitch

Here's an example of streamer Edison Park being Jebaited into playing the troll song ‘Chicken Attack' on stream by a fan. This is a typical case of a viewer jebaiting a streamer, and you can guarantee the Jebaited emotes were being spammed in chat at the time.

Of fact, the original definition of Jebaited is to ‘bait' someone in a competitive video game rather than troll a streamer. Below is a compilation of classic Jebaited moments.
